The integration of art and literature plays vital role in the overall development of learners. This research paper presents a detailed analysis of the concept of art and literature in education, its earliest developments, philosophical background, its benefits, educational perspectives, curriculum materials, and implementation challenges and solutions. Art-integrated education and literature pedagogy, which foster creativity, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and social sensitivity, create an experiential and joyful learning environment, breaking away from traditional systems.
Arts and literature education has a rich history in India and the world, considered an important part of humanity. From a philosophical perspective, it focuses on the development of self-realization, cultural understanding, and moral values. Policy documents such as the current National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) emphasize the integration of arts and literature into mainstream education to bridge the gap between different areas of knowledge and facilitate the advancement of various disciplines. However, challenges such as a lack of adequate teachers, a poor training system, and an exam-centric approach hinder its implementation. Government efforts, innovative educational methods, and community efforts are crucial to address these challenges. This research paper is a holistic effort to bring arts and literature to the center of education and thereby build an integrated society. Education promotes a vision that equips learners with 21st-century skills, leading to a sensitive, creative, and aware society.
